today was a fruitful day for me. as stated here before, i attended the YWD kenshukai at taipo kaikan (like KLGCC in KL). woke up at 8.30am, met up with janice (the korean girl) at the bus station, took bus no.2 and we reach the main kaikan, register our name and board the kaikan bus to the taipo kaikan. i didnt know anyone except for janice at the beginning, but eventually one by one came and introduce themselves and they intro me to another friend. this went on for the whole day. and most of them, in fact, i would say all of them were surprise to learn that im steven chan's daughter. most of them were, like, REALLY surprise! they didnt see me coming at all, hehehe! really had a fun time repeating and repeating to see the same whole steven chan's reaction from these people. by the way, i was in headquarter 10, the international honbu in hk. so in just that few hours, ive befriended members from uk, korea, philipines, paris, Los Angelas, hongky that came back from the states and also members from my mother country, m'sia. rac for example, i had the most conversation with her, she's may chan's niece, and both of us know each others' friends back in kl, which was all coincident! kiyoko and elsie, really salute both of them tremendously. they are really good translator. some members in headquarter 10 couldnt understand cantonese, so they need to carry this translator earset with them all the time, so both of them were the translator. kiyoko and elsie really did a great job! i was sitting quite near to them, it was as though they already know what the speaker in front would want to say. it takes no time for them to translate right away! hats off! another ywd here that i would like to mention here is viki holmes, the only white lady from the entire kenshukai. coincidently she was my translator buddy (i have to do some simple translation for her on what the speaker was saying, like instructions on what to do next). she is teaching at soka hk kindergarten, and i really think this job suits her a lot. with her amiable, energetic and happy go lucky character, if i were a kid, i would love to be at her class.
the way they organise meetings here is very much similar to malaysia. it felt really like home. the only thing different is that they speak better cantonese here. =p there were more than 400 participants today. headquarter 1-11. in terms of learning, i think the better word to use here is 'experience'. there is this session, where we are required to look for a partner and have a short dialogue. and i grab the nearest available ywd i could find. so i met this ywd from hk, though we chatted for less than 10 minutes but i could feel how strong her faith is. she briefly shared her experience to me, whereby she was once paralyzed for a few months, but then she survived the tormented ordeal and now her faith is stronger than ever. it was really inspiring! we also found out one of our dreams were similar! and promised to really think about it and to do it one day. hope to see her there!
the most enjoyable part was during the entertainment session nearing the end. we were taught a few simple dance movements and did a simple human domino. together with the lively music, the atmosphere was really fantastic!
all in all, great experience for me, great exposure!
